So, i'm sitting at a computer screen in Toronto, Canada, thinking about the football match i'm missing as my flight back to Aberdeen has been cancelled when I start to think about that 'day of the week'.
What is the big deal for so many people? Hopefully over the next few months (and perhaps longer) I can begin to decipher what I (and the others who suffer with me) think about Aberdeen Football Club and that Saturday game of football.
I check up on the scores and lo and behold, Aberdeen 1 - 2 Hamilon. Thank the lord for small mercies. Glad I missed that one. Apparently a shocking match and we've lost at home twice now in 3 games. Gary McDonald opens the scoring for the Dons only for us to lose 2 disasterous goals (an all too common occurance let me tell you).
Ok, lets rewind. Let's get back to the start of this season. How did we get to this point? Personally I blame Tricky. Yes Tricky, it's all your fault. Moves back to Aberdeen then suggests we should buy a season ticket (which I haven't done due to general apathy and some pretty horrendous 'fitba' on show for many a year).
Hmmmm, 'OK', I say.... but wait.... what's this? Others are going to join us. Are you serious? Oh yes.... 6 of us have signed up no less (Tricky, Myself, Gus, Dunc, Mark and his dad Ian). Aberdeen FC will be joyous at the prospect of some returning fans and will reward us appropriately. Or so we thought.
A quick recap on what has gone on so far this season. Some new signings, the pick of which would have been Kerr and Aluko on paper. The rest a mixed bag.
The first game. At home, Aberdeen 0 - 2 Inverness CT. Oh dear, what a shambles. All that early season enthusiasm gone, in one fell swoop. The first time they have beaten us (to be fair it had been looming for a LONG time now, with many a fortunate result on our behalf of late). Entertainment value = 0.
A fairly shambolic game against the Steelmen next but a win none-the-less courtesy of a last minute free kick from Charlie Mulgrew. Motherwell 0 - 1 Aberdeen. Entertainment value = 0 (I sense a pattern developing here).
Rangers at home next, always a powderkeg fixture. This one was sadly lacking however. Aberdeen 1 - 1 Rangers. Rangers pretty much ran the show and took the lead midway through the first half. The usual 'banter' between the sets of fans was FAR better than the game however. Derek Young popped up with the equaliser just on half time (makes a change). Rangers 'scored' right at the death but it was disallowed for offside which had them up in arms (boo hoo, it happens to us all. I seem to remember Parkhead AND Motherwell at the end of last season when we had 2 perfectly legitamate goals chalked off). All in all, another poor display. The natives are becoming restless....
Anyway, onwards to Canada, and the prospect of 3 football-less weeks (a good thing judging by the opening salvo of matches).
Next up... Ayr in the League cup. Midweek. Nothing really to add, Maguire for the win. Ayr 0 - 1 Aberdeen.
Apparently then another away win with Mackie, (jesus christ, surely not) the scorer. St Mirren 0 - 1 Aberdeen.
And then i'm back. Home, after a new flight has been purchased and what's that? Dundee United at home the next day. Why not..........
